Energy Efficiency with Green Earth Spray Foam Insulation

Unlike fiberglass batt insulation, spray foam expands and fills every nook, cranny, and gap between spaces, seams, and corners. It is a durable and long-lasting material that won’t sag, compress, or lose its shape over time. It is also non-toxic and safe to apply to all areas of the home, including attics, crawl spaces, rim joists, and walls.

There are two types of spray foam insulation: open and closed cell. Open cell spray foam contains small pockets that aren’t completely encapsulated, and it is softer than closed-cell foam. This type of foam uses water or carbon dioxide as its blowing agent, and it is less harmful to the environment than its closed-cell counterpart.

The installation process for spray foam is simple and quick. The contractor sprays the insulator into an area where it is needed, and then the product spreads and expands to cover all necessary space. A specialized gun is used to apply the product, and the installer can point it at all hard-to-reach spots such as seams, corners, or the spaces around light fixtures or electrical outlets.

Depending on the spray foam insulation you choose, it may contain chemicals with high global warming potential (GWP) such as HFCs or HCFCs. However, some products have been developed that use low GWP blowing agents such as BASF Walltite CM01 and Genyk Boreal Nature. These alternatives are more environmentally friendly than the HFCs and HCFCs commonly used in spray foam insulation, and they offer a similar performance to traditional spray foam.
